Pressure Testing & SAP Calculation
Pressure Testing / Air Tightness Testing
Dwellings require Pressure Testing / Air Leakage Testing to provide compliance with Part L1 of the Building Regulations. (England, Wales, and NI).
6th April 2006 – Building Regulations L1a – Conservation of fuel and power in new dwellings.
It is now mandatory that a percentage of all new homes prove compliance prior to occupation through Air Pressure Testing. Building Control will be unable to provide you with a completion certificate unless test have taken place and correct results achieved.
The following guide should be used for determining the number of tests required:
| Number of instances of the dwelling type | Number of tests to be carried out on each dwelling type |
| 4 or less | One test of each dwelling type |
| Greater than 4, but equal or less than 40 | Two tests of each dwelling type |
| More than 40 | At least 5% of the dwelling type, unless the first 5 units of the type that are Tested achieve the design air permeability, when sampling frequency can be subsequently reduced to 2% |
Air leakage should not exceed 10m3/hr/m2 of the building envelope.
We have a dedicated team of BINDT registered members working throughout the UK offering our Pressure Testing Service. Tests are conducted in accordance with ATTMA (Air Tightness Testing and Measuring Association) TS1, Issue 2 to BS EN 13829 standards.

New Build SAP Calculations
SAP stands for Standard Assessment Procedure.
During the design stages of a build project a SAP is used to show compliance with Building Regulations Part L. This is a mandatory required calculation of energy cost and carbon emissions generated from heating, lighting, ventilating, and providing hot water for any new build dwelling. We provide calculations for:
- New Build Dwellings
- Conversions
- Alteration projects
Simply send in your plans to sap@premiermeasurements.co.uk and we will do the rest. For more information please call 0845 37 000 89.
