| When internal levels are considered, guidance on suitable internal noise levels can be found in BS 8233: 1999. BS 8233 provides guidance values for a range of ambient noise levels within residential properties as shown in the table below. |

BS8233:1999 states that "for a reasonable standard in bedrooms at night, individual noise events should normally not exceed 45dB". To equate this to an external noise level, BS8233 indicates that any type of window in a facade when partially open provides a weighted sound reduction index RW of 10-15 dB. This gives an external level of 55 to 60 dB LAmax,F.
